Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Friedrich Petzel Gallery, in collaboration with Edition Schellmann Contemporary Art Production, is pleased to present the Door Cycle. The exhibition will include works by Daniel Buren, Olafur Eliasson, Elmgreen & Dragset, Katharina Fritsch, Liam Gillick, Katharina Grosse, Anish Kapoor, Sarah Morris, Paul Morrison, Tony Oursler, Jorge Pardo, Wilhelm Sasnal, Thomas Schutte, Santiago Sierra, Luc Tuymans, and Christopher Wool.

Between 1964 and 1966 Willem de Kooning painted a series of female figures on hollow-core wood doors, which were later exhibited as the Door Cycle at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1996. Inspired by Willem de Kooning's Door Cycle paintings, Edition Schellmann invited a group of artists to create works of art on prefabricated hollow-core doors. The resulting works are painting, object, silk-screen, sculpture, relief and other techniques, on wood, glass, steel, and even paper.

The exhibition will be on view from June 29 through August 11 at Friedrich Petzel Gallery at 535 W 22nd street. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, June 28th from 6 – 8pm.
For further information, please contact the gallery at info@petzel.com, or call (212) 680-9467.
