Heimo Zobernig (b1958) is one of the most respected artists working in Europe today, however his practice is still relatively unknown in the UK. Over the last twenty-five years he has created a considerable body of work, including sculpture, video, painting, installation, architectural intervention and performance. For this exhibition Zobernig has been invited to respond to both the building and the context of Tate St Ives. It will include new work, together with a number of important sculptures and paintings produced throughout his career. This will be Zobernig's first exhibition in the UK.
In addition to the artists own works, the exhibition will also include a diverse range of key works from the Tate Collection selected by the artist. These will be reconfigured through their integration and juxtaposition with his own works, and with his own critical framing and display design.
Born in Austria in 1958, Heimo Zobernig has exhibited extensively throughout Europe and the US, including Documenta X and Documenta 11, Venice Biennalle 2001, and a major European touring retrospective in 2002 (MUMOK Vienna, Kunsthalle Basel, K21 Dusseldorf).
