TROY BRAUNTUCH, KEITH EDMIER and RICHARD PHILLIPS
January 10 – February 21, 2004
Opening Reception: Saturday, January 10, 6-8 pm

Friedrich Petzel Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by Troy Brauntuch, Keith Edmier, and Richard Phillips, artists who through the use of appropriated imagery, blur the lines between personal and collective memory.

Troy Brauntuch will exhibit a recent group of paintings, drawings and photographs. The subject of these works are objects from Brauntuch's personal life, everyday items such as boots, gloves and chalk. In the paintings, he renders these objects in a haunting, almost abstract manner, which prevents a clear reading of the picture.

Keith Edmier will present a new work called Frank Veteran 1980, 2003, which tells a story of the emergency medical events concerning the murder of John Lennon, as told by the Chief Surgical Resident at Roosevelt Hospital the night of December 8, 1980.

Richard Phillips will exhibit six drawings that are the basis for his newest body of work. Through them he continues to explore the polemic that is inherent in his work, seemingly disparate images that challenge our uncertain relationship to the overwhelming image saturation of our age.
